Remix Is Joining Via

Today, we are excited to share that Remix is being acquired by Via

For Remix, 2021 brings new hope and a new home. Joining forces with Via represents an incredible opportunity to tackle the biggest mobility challenges we face in the decade to come. We're thrilled to partner with Via on their platform, resources, and international footprint to benefit the hundreds of cities and transit agencies we serve.

When Dan, Danny, Sam, and I founded Remix in 2014, we never anticipated the adventures and the talented team that would form around our mission of building more livable cities. After our Code for America prototype went viral and we received hundreds of emails from planners around the world, we knew we had uncovered something important. What started as a grassroots hackathon project called Transitmix for residents to suggest better transit routes to their city quickly became an indispensable tool for the overall transportation planning process.

My cofounders Sam Hashemi, Dan Getelman, Danny Whalen, and I started Remix to work on our shared passion for transportation and the impact it can have on making cities more livable. After Code for America tweeted out the Transitmix prototype (leading to our unexpected public “launch”), 30,000 maps were created in hundreds of cities around the world.

Over the last six years, Remix has grown to become the leading collaborative mapping platform for transportation planning and decision-making, serving 350+ cities in over 22 countries across 5 continents. Since 2014, more than 11,000 transportation practitioners have created over 74,000 projects in Remix. In 2020 - the year when remote collaboration with colleagues, partners, and the general public went from nice-to-have to must-have (seemingly overnight) - our product team shipped over 120 updates - many of which became essential to emerging multimodal planning needs in this new digital landscape.

Highlights and milestones along the Remix journey

Joining Via puts us in an even stronger position to build the next generation of transportation solutions for cities and agencies. Like Remix, Via has spent the last decade pioneering technology to improve how we get around. We’ve been impressed with the quality of the Via team and the depth and breadth of their product portfolio. Together, with Remix's strength in planning and Via's strength in operations, we can provide an end-to-end digital infrastructure for powering public mobility.

I’d like to express my gratitude to every one of my Remix colleagues who helped us get here. Thank you to every Remix customer who believed in us early on, especially when “cloud-based software” was not yet a common phrase in local government and “multimodal” was still a fringe concept for cities. It’s been an honor to work with you to deliver transportation that serves as the backbone of your communities through pandemics, natural disasters, climate crises, and beyond. We remain committed to you, and to our vision: to achieve a more equitable world by expanding access within it.

With anticipation for this next chapter,
