Vice President of Thriving Communities at Smart Growth America

Emiko Atherton is the Vice President for Thriving Communities and Director of the National Complete Streets Coalition, a program of Smart Growth America. As Vice President of Thriving Communities, Emiko oversees SGA’s public health, community-driven engagement, placemaking and rural communities work. In her role as Director of the Coalition, Emiko oversees the program’s overall strategy, federal advocacy, communications, research, and technical assistance programs. She has used her expertise in transportation policy, public health, land use, economic development, and legislation to consult with communities across the United States on how to create better transportation networks. Emiko is an international voice on Complete Streets and has spoken to audiences across the country about the value this approach.

Mike Lydon

Principal at StreetPlans and author of Tactical Urbanism

Mike Lydon is a founding Principal of Street Plans and leads the firm’s New York City office. Mike is the creator of the The Open Streets Project and the globally acclaimed series of digital publications, Tactical Urbanism: Short-Term Action, Long-Term Change Vol. 1 – 5. With Andres Duany and Jeff Speck, Mike is the co-author of The Smart Growth Manual (McGraw Hill, 2009), and alongside Tony Garcia is the recipient of the 2017 Seaside Prize and the co-author of Tactical Urbanism (Island Press, 2015), named by Planetizen as one of the top planning books of the past decade. Mike was also named by Planetizen as one of the 100 most influential urbanists. Most recently, Mike co-authored NACTO's Streets for Pandemic Response and Recovery, an emerging best practice guide that aims to assist cities manage the myriad of challenges stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic

Policy Director of Mobility and Inter Agency Relations for the Mayor's Office of Oakland

Warren Logan serves as the Policy Director of Mobility and Interagency Relations for the Mayor’s Office of Oakland. Warren works closely with the City’s Department of Transportation, Public Works Department and other Bay Area public agencies to develop strategies that advance the city’s vision for safe and sustainable transportation for everyone. Warren received his Masters in City and Regional Planning from UC Berkeley’s Department of City and Regional Planning and his B.A. in Urban and Environmental Policy from Occidental Colleg
