Your Guide to Remix's New Layout

Remix

The new look focuses on clarity and aims to increase screen real estate.

If you’re reading this, you’ve probably already noticed that Remix looks a little different. So, why the new layout? The decision was driven by many months of user feedback, research and testing to make Remix more user friendly and intuitive.

With that being said, let's take a tour!

Below are the main enhancements we’ve made to the Remix platform.

1. New Home Screen

We’ve added a header to the home screen to ensure that you have the information you need in one place. You now have links to About Remix, Help, and Updates on your home screen, and you can also access previously used maps and create new projects. For those who use Remix for both transit planning and street planning, this new home screen will enable you to toggle between different Remix functionality.

The black banner at the top of the screen makes the Remix resources you need more discoverable.

2. New Map Layout

Most functionality has been shifted to the left — look at all that map space!

Probably the most notable visual change: we moved line and timetable info from the right side of the screen to the left, for a more intuitive view (since people read left to right).

Here are a few other changes we’ve made to improve your user experience:

  • While you’ll still be able to add a line to the map by click the “+” button, this action will now also import a line from an existing network.

The "+" now adds new and existing lines.
  • The “gear” or settings button operates much the same way, extending out from the left panel and then folding back in. The other items previously on the left side are now in the elipses (“…”) — including Export, Title VI, Duplicate project, Delete project, and Help.

Click “…” to find Export, Title VI, Duplicate, Delete and Help.
  • Not to be dismissed: custom data layers, Jane, and manual zoom in/out have moved, and can now be accessed in the bottom right corner.

3. Three New Views of the Timetable Function

Based on the feedback we’ve heard, new views have been added to the timetable function. We now offer Split, Full, and Map views.

  • Split view allows the frequency windows, timetable, and cost/demographics to be viewed at the same time.
  • Full view fills the screen with just the timetable.
  • Map view show the timetable and the line at the same time.

The new split view is especially important to our customers, as it enables them to make a change and instantly see the impact on service hours for costing. They can also more easily see the relationship between frequency windows and trips.

All of these enhancements are available today to Remix users. And, don’t panic. While we moved buttons around, the functionality you know and love is still in Remix — only even easier to access.

As always, we’re eager to hear what you think. If you have any feedback or questions, please contact your Customer Success Manager and they will be delighted to assist you with showing off the new layout.

Happy planning!
